O Bebedouro Solar foi desenvolvido para suprir a necessidade de água fresca mesmo em áreas com ambientes hostis, como por exemplo na zona de Trás-os-Montes, para o fornecimento de água potável aos animais da região. Com sua estrutura rígida e acabamento resistente o bebedouro enquadra-se especialmente em áreas rurais. O bebedouro funciona com energia solar fornecida através de painéis fotovoltaicos.
O Bebedouro Solar otimizado é composto por uma base em granito (reservatório da água), que tem como principal objetivo repor e manter reservas de água, em zonas afetadas pelo défice de pluviosidade, para animais terem o acesso mais facilitado a água durante as épocas mais secas, e uma coluna que suporta uma caixa de madeira que pode ser utilizada por aves como base de nidificação, e tem também espaço para que no seu interior esteja colocada uma caixa estanque com os dispositivos elétricos e eletrónicos.
Dentro da caixa estanque encontra-se o microcontrolador que comanda todo o sistema de sensores que existe, e também responsável por enviar dados através de uma ligação Bluetooth para um Smartphone que tenha a aplicação concebida para o efeito. Esta aplicação permite obter alguns dados tais como a temperatura da água, e tempo de funcionamento da bomba, em registos diários.
O painel fotovoltaico que é utilizado como fonte de energia elétrica está situado em cima da caixa de madeira.
The Trough powered by solar energy was developed to meet the need for fresh water, even in areas with harsh environments, such as in Trás-os-Montes region, to supply drinking water to the animals of the region. With its rigid and resistant structure, the trough fits especially in rural areas. The trough works with solar energy provided by photovoltaic panels. Optimized Solar Trough consists of a base of granite (water reservoir), which has as main objective to restore and maintain water supplies in areas affected by the rainfall deficit for animals having the easier access to water during times drier; and a column that supports a wooden box that can be used by birds as nesting base, and also has space inside where will be placed a sealed box with all the electrical and electronic devices. Inside the box is the microcontroller that controls the entire existing sensor system, and also is responsible for sending data via a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone that has the application designed for the propose. This application allows to get some data such as water temperature and pump operating time, in daily records. The photovoltaic panel that is used as the power source is located on top of the wooden box.
