Abstract(s)
The Solemnities of Senhor dos Passos de Mogadouro fall within the scope of social practices, rituals and festive events in which intangible heritage manifests as well. It is a ritual in continuous recreation since the 17th century, which has never been the subject of a systematic study, although it is considered an important devotional practice by the local community. The objectives of this study focus on the identification of intangible heritage assets, their investigation and inventory with the purpose of safeguarding and valuing them. The research methodology favors the inventory of the different elements of the heritage asset under study in order to, according to the intention of the responsible communities, integrate it into the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Portugal. From the elements expressed in the Decree-Law on safeguarding intangible cultural heritage no. 139/2009, of June 15, this study will essentially focus on: the social, territorial and temporal context and the associated material heritage, also aiming to enhance the interpretation of ritual as a transboundary practice between Portugal and Spain.
