Ao abordar o tema – A deficiência mental e o mundo laboral: representações e vivências - pretendeu-se analisar a relação existente entre o emprego, considerado um dos fatores mais relevantes de inserção social, e a sua influência na vida dos indivíduos portadores de deficiência mental.
Para tal foi formulado o problema - Serão os portadores de deficiência mental aceites pelos empregadores e pela sociedade em geral no mercado de trabalho? e definidos os objetivos - Identificar as oportunidades de trabalho que os empregadores dão às pessoas portadoras de deficiência mental em Bragança; compreender quais as perspetivas que os portadores de deficiência mental têm em relação ao emprego; analisar as dificuldades que os portadores de deficiência mental encontram na procura de emprego; especificar como é que os empregadores percecionam a inclusão no mundo do laboral dos portadores de deficiência mental.
O estudo foi realizado numa instituição particular de solidariedade social, a Associação Sócio - Cultural dos Deficientes de Trás- os – Montes em Bragança, que acolhe portadores de deficiência nas suas cinco respostas sociais – Lar Residencial, Centro de Atividades Ocupacionais, Apoio ao Domicílio, Residência Autónoma I e II e Centro de Reabilitação e Formação Profissional.
A metodologia utilizada foi de natureza qualitativa, partindo de um estudo de caso múltiplo, pois a amostra utilizada foi uma amostra por conveniência sendo considerados dois grupos – o grupo dos portadores de deficiência mental com 6 elementos e o grupo dos empregadores com 5 elementos.
A técnica de recolha de dados foi uma entrevista semiestruturada, aplicada a cada grupo de forma a obter respostas que nos permitissem concretizar os objetivos definidos e compreender o problema, tendo sido feita análise de conteúdo.
O enquadramento teórico serviu de suporte a toda a investigação e em conjunto com os dados recolhidos fundamentaram a discussão dos mesmos que nos permitirá a apresentar as considerações finais. De notar que os portadores de deficiência mental encontram vários obstáculos na entrada para o mercado de trabalho. Contudo, atualmente apesar de existir uma maior abertura por parte dos empregadores, na aceitação desta população a nível laboral, ainda se verificam muitos entraves e barreiras que impedem os portadores de deficiência mental de exercerem o seu direito ao trabalho.
Addressing the issue – Mental disability and the world of work: representations and experiences - was intended to examine the relationship between employment, considered one of the most important factors of social integration, and its influence in the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities. This is why we formulated the problem - Are the mentally handicapped accepted by employers and society in general in the labor market? and defined goals - Identify job opportunities that employers give people with mental disabilities in Bragança; understand what the prospects that the mentally disabled have in relation to employment; analyze the difficulties that the mentally disabled are at job search, specify how employers perceive inclusion in the world of employment of the disabled. The study was conducted in a private social solidarity, Socio - Cultural Association of the Disabled of Tras- os - Montes in Bragança, which welcomes people with disabilities in its five social responses - Residential Home, Occupational Activity Centre, Support Domicile, Residence Autonomous I and II and Center for Rehabilitation and Vocational Training. The methodology was qualitative in nature, based on a multiple case study, because the sample was a convenience sample considering two groups - the group of mentally handicapped with 6 elements and the group of employers with 5 elements. The technique of data collection was a semi structured interview, applied to each group in order to obtain answers that allow us to achieve the set goals and understand the problem , having been made content analysis . The theoretical framework served to support all research and in conjunction with the data collected based the discussion of them that will allow us to present the final remarks. Note that the mentally disabled are several obstacles in the entrance to the labor market. However, although there is currently a greater openness on the part of employers, acceptance of this population at work, there are too many obstacles and barriers that prevent people with mental disabilities from exercising their right to work.
