Abstract(s)
The combination of the increase in the average life expectancy with the modification of the family structures and the labor issues that lead the young people to move to the coast of the country, has been reflected in the issues of care for the elderly, in their institutionalization and, consequently, the type of activities that can be developed with institutionalized people. In this context, this research had as main objective to investigate the type of activities of socio-cultural animation that are developed in residential structures for the elderly and their adequacy to the elderly. This study, considering the nature, development and its implications, uses the quantitative and qualitative perspective for data collection and analysis. The qualitative line is related to the fact that one wants to analyze the opinion, the feelings, the experiences, the memories of the clients of the institutions, using the interview for this purpose, as an instrument of data collection. The quantitative line was developed through the use of a questionnaire, with the purpose of knowing the opinion of several technicians that allowed us to obtain a more global vision and analyze the consistencies and inconsistencies in the options assumed, in relation to the activities they develop. Considering the interviews, from this study emerges that the activities of animation are still planned to occupy the time of the elderly, having a greater incidence of this perspective in the institutions of the interior. It is also observed that some clients show that they are not mentally disposed to carry out the activities that are proposed to them. In the coastal institutions, the actions to be developed are more accepted by the clients, assuming their liking to be involved in them. The interviewees of the coastal collaborating institutions show that they feel active and participative because what they do, makes sense for themselves and values them as a person. With regard to the cross-referencing of the interview data to the elderly with those provided by the inquiries to the technicians, they reveal that it is difficult for technicians in the inner zone to adapt their activities to the users, and there is a clear and perceptible divergence between the opinion of the technicians with the planning of the activities presented and the opinion of the clients interviewed. In coastal institutions, collaborators, there seems to be a symbiosis between the work of technicians and customer satisfaction.
