Este estudo sobre Educação ambiental para um turismo sustentável visa desenvolver uma
consciência ambiental dos guias turísticos, levando-os a desempenhar um papel ativo na
construção de um turismo sustentável. A questão se os guias turísticos de São Tomé e Príncipe
(STP) podem contribuir para o desenvolvimento de uma educação ambiental para um turismo
sustentável, permitiu a definição de objetivos que visam verificar que tipo de formação os guias
turísticos de STP têm para o exercício da sua atividade profissional e compreender o seu papel
na promoção de uma consciência ambiental para um turismo sustentável. Uma metodologia
qualitativa, apoiada numa análise de conteúdo de duas entrevistas semiestruturadas e
individuais e uma ação de formação sobre o tema, aplicadas a três guias turísticos da Associação
de Guias de Turismo de STP e a três da Associação Monte Pico, selecionados de forma
intencional, permitiram clarificar a questão e os objetivos definidos.
