Atitudes dos jovens face ao ambiente: um estudo em São Tomé e Príncipe

| dc.description.abstract | O esgotamento dos recursos naturais e a fragilidade dos equilíbrios ecológicos são alguns dos problemas com que a humanidade se defronta, porque limitam o desenvolvimento económico e põem em perigo a sua própria sobrevivência. As questões éticas e sociais, são elementos fundamentais para a transformação das sociedades humanas, em harmonia com o mundo natural. Esta mudança de paradigma deverá passar pela adoção de sistemas de valores que promovam uma visão ecocêntrica e holística. Neste contexto, a Educação Ambiental tem vindo a afirmar-se como dimensão formativa e cívica incontornável nos vários níveis de ensino. No entanto, para agir devemos conhecer o ponto de partida. Daí resulta o interesse em conhecer as atitudes dos jovens em idade escolar face ao ambiente. Neste estudo usou-se a metodologia quantitativa, com recurso ao inquérito por questionário do tipo Likert, aplicado a 260 alunos, repartidos pelos 8.º, 9.º, 10.º, 11.º e 12.º anos, 76 (29%) do Liceu Nacional de S. Tomé e 184 (71%) da Escola Secundária Maria Manuela Margarido, sendo 121 (46,5%) do género masculino e 139 (53,5%) do género feminino. Utilizou-se uma adaptação da Escala de Atitudes dos Jovens Face ao Ambiente. Os resultados globais por indivíduo mostraram atitudes médias positivas face ao ambiente, mas os coeficientes de correlação entre os resultados globais e as variáveis independentes ano de escolaridade, idade, género, desempenho académico, não mostram diferenciação estatisticamente significativa. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Depletion of natural resources and the fragility of the ecosystems are some of the problems that humanity is facing, because they limit the economic development and endanger their own survival. The ethical and social issues are fundamental to the transformation of human society, in harmony with the natural world. This paradigm change should be achieved by adopting a system of values that promote an ecocentric and holistic view. In this context, Environmental education has been shown to have an important educational and civic dimension, essential in the different levels of education. However, in order to act we need to know the starting point. So, we want to know the attitudes towards the environment of young people at school. In this study we applied the quantitative methodology through the application of a Likert questionnaire to 260 students, divided by 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 academic years, 76 (29%) of the Liceu Nacional de S. Tomé and 184 (71%) of the Escola Secundária Maria Manuela Margarido. 121 (46.5%) students participating in this survey were male and 139 (53.5%) were female. We used an adaptation of Attitude Scale of Young Face to the Environment. The overall results for person showed that the average of the attitudes towards the environment are positive, but the correlation coefficients between the overall results and the independent variables such as grade, age, gender or academic performance, do not show statistically significant difference. | pt_PT |
