  • Photovoltaic water pumping system for small power conventional AC pumps
Publication . Tangerino, Bruno Henrique Boschetti; Roman, Dionizio José Vargas; Leite, V.; Goedtel, Alessandro; Ferreira, Ângela P.; Batista, José; Maidana, Wellington
The interest of photovoltaic (PV) water pumping systems with standard components is increasing as a low cost and independent solution over dedicated systems. However, one of the challenges of this alternative is the fact that small power systems to drive power pumps require a small number of PV modules and the PV string voltage is, usually, not enough to feed the frequency converter. This paper presents an approach to the drive, using a DC/DC converter with maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The overall system has been tested on a real experimental platform.
  • Grid connection approach for very small-scale pico-hydro systems using PV microinverters
Publication . Ribeiro, Gabriela Moreira; Maidana, Wellington; Leite, V.; Ferreira, Ângela P.
The use of renewable energy sources has grown significantly in recent decades, with emphasis on resources that have a low environmental impact in the energy production process. Small-scale pico-hydro systems have great potential and are also in line with increasing environmental requirements.
  • Design of a elf-sustainable system based on renewable energy sources for a small museum of science dissemination - the house of silk
Publication . Maidana, Wellington; Leite, Vicente; Ferreira, Ângela P.; Queijo, Luis; Batista, José; Bonaldo, Jakson; Gonçalves, Estefânia
This paper presents the complete design of a selfsustainable system based on renewable energy sources - hydro and photovoltaic - for a small museum dedicated to the dissemination of science called House of Silk. The solution is based on a microgrid, connected to the main grid, using innovative technologies for energy production, storage and management. The microgrid is based on a cluster of three battery inverters which establish a three-phase supplying system. The hydro energy is generated using a low head, pico-hydro propeller turbine, connected to the microgrid through an innovative solution. The photovoltaic energy is produced by means of photovoltaic tiles and conventional modules.
