- O socialismo de Orwell: uma nova proposta social em plena Segunda Guerra MundialPublication . Silva, Elisabete MendesOrwell’s social proposal in The Lion and the Unicorn, published in 1941, intended to give solutions to a nation suffering the dramatic effects of the Second World War. Orwell tried, through his socialist programme, to free Britain from the private capitalism and the coercive power of the totalitarian regimes that were menacing all Europe. The solution lied on Socialism. This paper’s main purpose is to present Orwell’s socialism as a new and refreshing proposal in a specific time that was asking for urgent political, social and economic change. A strong believer in the values of solidarity, equality, decency and justice, Orwell stood up for the ideals of a democratic system which contained, on the one hand, optimism and hope for the future, but, on the other, showed some incoherence that made Orwell’s socialist programme fallible. A proposta social delineada por Orwell em 1941 com os objectivos de sarar muitas das feridas provocadas pela Segunda Guerra Mundial, eliminar os vícios que se arreigaram na sociedade e política britânicas durante séculos e, principalmente, encontrar soluções para resolver a situação problemática que a Grã-Bretanha vivia a todos os níveis, constituíu o principal conteúdo das partes II e III de The Lion and the Unicorn. Orwell escreveu essas duas partes, “Shopkeepers at War” e “The English Revolution” num contexto bastante peculiar.
- Brandos costumesPublication . Barroso, BárbaraO "Cinema Português através dos Seus Filmes" surge no panorama dos novos cursos do ensino superior relacionados com o audiovisual e o cinema e no âmbito do crescimento de estudos aprofundados das diferentes épocas e vertentes do cinema nacional. Por um lado, o livro pretende auxiliar no ensino da história do cinema português e no estudo dos seus filmes e, por outro, tornar acessível as pesquisas realizadas nos últimos anos a outros investigadores, bem como a cinéfilos e interessados no cinema em geral. Deste modo, o seu objectivo principal consiste na introdução crítica ao cinema português através de análises detalhadas de uma determinada selecção de filmes expressivos - vinte e três longas-metragens desde o início do cinema sonoro (1931) até aos dias actuais (2004) - escritas por dezoito pesquisadores nacionais e internacionais. O capítulo "Brandos Costumes" é uma dessas análises.
- Cultural tourism in the Northern East region of PortugalPublication . Martins, Catarina Antónia; Esteves, Elsa Tavares; Carvalho, AidaNowadays tourists have changed their values particularly in what concerns the environment and different cultures. The old mass tourism has given place to a new tourism where changing values are generating demand for a more environmentally conscious and nature-oriented holidays. Sun and beach resorts which have for long been one of the main attractions for tourists start to be replaced for other destinations such as rural areas where natural environment is still intact. Also the new tourist wishes to run away from everyday life and look for new cultural environments, in order to explore new values, and new ways of living. Cultural motivations turn into enrichment in what education is concerned through the participation in cultural events, such as festivals, theatre, music, museums, etc. or through visiting destinations rich in history, costumes and traditions which , in fact, attract the cultural tourist. The northern east region of Portugal near the border with Spain still owns a rich natural, historic and cultural patrimony which is the base to promote tourism activity. The proximity with Spain makes this country as the first market coming to the region not always as a tourist but also as a one day visitant. A research project was conducted in 2002 aiming to characterise the supply and demand in the tourism sector in the northern east region of Portugal and also to find what were the motivations and expectations of the tourist coming to this region. The research was held in August and September and a survey was applied both to national and foreign tourists from a sample considered significant. In what the demand is concerned the following features were inquired, among others: type of tourist consumer, motivations, touristic products that were more satisfying and dissatisfying and the likelihood to return and to recommend the regions to others. The research allowed to conclude that the first motivation for tourists who visit the region for the first time is a cultural one- meet new places, new people and other ways of living. The first motivation for people that came to the region for the second time or more is the nature and landscape of this region followed by the gastronomy as the second motivation. Moreover the tourist who came for the second time or more refer the hospitality and sympathy of the people of the region as one of the main reason to return.. The aim of the present study is to launch another research based on the first one, trying to explore these first results with the purpose of assessing how those motivations are related to cultural tourism and how the proximity of the border influences cultural tourism. The survey was conducted in the summer months trying to identify the main characteristics of tourists coming to the northern east region focusing on those who come for cultural purposes. This second research project will also allow us to conclude from those who came for cultural purposes what measures could be undertaken to promote cultural tourism and to take the best advantage of this region location.
- Consortium agreement template for virtual enterprisesPublication . Carvalho, José Dinis; Moreira, Nuno Afonso; Pires, LuísThis chapter addresses the contractual legislation problem as an integration problem within the virtual enterprise context. In order to address the problem in a real legal platform, we create an example of a consortium agreement template based on the existing Portuguese legislation. The legislation is no more than standard procedures and guidelines to address an organization’s formalization within the legal system and society. Looking through the existing Portuguese legislation, as an example, we found a way to legally fit virtual enterprises (VEs). Moreover, we propose a consortium agreement template as a preestablished standard agreement to legally support VEs before specific legislation is created. We propose that the enterprises, when joining a market of service providers, would automatically accept this consortium agreement template in order to more rapidly become a partner in a VE as soon as business opportunities arise.

Carvalho, AidaA partir das fontes de informação do Instituto dos Arquivos Nacionais Torre do Tombo (IANIT) não encontramos registos da identificação de elementos judaizantes anteriores ao século XVI. Os primei~ documentos datam de 1541, aquando da prisão de António Henriques, e mais tarde a partir de 1603, com a prisão de Francisco da Silva, dê 55 anos. Posteriormente surgiu um elevado número de processos do tribunal da Inquisição• do Coimbra* respeitantes aos indivíduos judaizantes residentes em Vila Nova de Foz Côa, reflexo talvez de perseguições colectivas. A crescente pressão inquisitorial desencadeou a dispersão de muitos cristãos-novos, com poucas capacidades económicas, das suas localidades de origem: Marialva, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Almeida, San Felices de los Gallegos para esta localidade.
- O futuro próximo - dez anos de curtas-metragens portuguesas (2000-2009)Publication . Ribas, DanielOs anos 2000, no campo da curta-metragem portuguesa, são anos de enormes transformações. Resultado da revolução operada nos finais dos anos 90 - e que ficou conhecida como a "Geração Curtas" - a nova geração apresenta-se com características próprias, rodeada de enormes transformações produtivas, técnicas e, até, políticas. Neste texto, argumenta-se que os anos 2000 têm duas vagas distintas (o início desses anos e a partir de 2006), mas aspetos temáticos semelhantes (divididos em dois eixos: um mais visual e outro mais fantasista). Entre os autores abordados estão os principais nomes desta geração: Miguel Gomes, Sandro Aguilar, João Nicolau, João Salaviza, Cláudia Varejão ou João Pedro Rodrigues. São também abordados, complementarmente, os casos da animação, do documentário e do cinema experimental.
- O caso de desenvolvimento turístico de Montalegre: uma ideia da naturezaPublication . Correia, Ricardo; Brito, CarlosO caso analisado neste artigo aborda a atuação de um concelho que implementou um processo de desenvolvimento turístico assente nos seus recursos endógenos. Escolhendo elementos verdadeiramente diferenciadores e autênticos e envolvendo o maior número de actores do destino. conseguiu criar uma dinâmica turística sustentável que se estrutura em marcas de produtos locais que têm vindo progressivamente a ganhar notoriedade nacional. A Feira de Fumeiro de Montalegre que se afirma como um das mais dinâmicas do Pais, ou o fenómeno das Sextas-Feiras Treze que consegue gerar uma grande procura turística na região, o congresso de medicina popular de Vilar de Perdizes que celebrou em 2010 a sua vigésima sétima edição e o Ecomuseu do Barroso que funciona como agente dinamizador da região são abordados neste caso. Da sua análise, retiram-se ensinamentos que poderão ser úteis para a grande maioria dos concelhos rurais que continuam a aproveitar pouco o potencial de riqueza que têm a seu dispor.
- Constrains associated to e-business evolutionPublication . Morais, Elisabete Paulo; Pires, José Adriano; Gonçalves, ElisabeteTechnological advance of the last decades created an atmosphere in which the organizations are forced to look actively for new options for the cost reduction, in addition to, simultaneously, seeking to compete more effectively in their markets. This context requires focused, swift, more flexible and more competitive organizations which are forced, many times, to implement radical changes in the way they conduct business, employ people and use technology. Despite the recognition and the attention given to electronic business (or e-business) over the last years, this type of business hasn’t yet achieved a desirable maturity stage. This problem, current and stated over the last years, demands research efforts so that a solution can be found to solve it. In this chapter, the authors explore a range of constraints which are suggested by the literature to influence e-business evolution, so that organizations could be better equipped in anticipating any difficulties while in progress through their e-business initiatives.
- O tratamento e análise de dadosPublication . Rodrigues, MiguelEste capítulo tem como principal objectivo auxiliar os investigadores na determinação do tipo de análise e na espécie de mecanismos de tratamento e analise de dados que melhor se adequam a investigação que se deseja levar a cabo. Por outras palavras, ate ao momento, o leitor foi convidado a reflectir sobre uma pergunta de investigação. Tudo começou com a definição de um problema que deverá ser suficientemente forte e relevante de maneira a servir de suporte e justificação à investigação decorrente. Do problema decorre uma pergunta de investigação que visa possibilitar a enumeração de hipóteses, com o propósito de serem testadas de maneira a resolver o problema enunciado. Ora, facilmente compreendemos que o tratamento e a analise de dados se revelam de extrema importância para qualquer tipo de investigação. Numa perspectiva dedutiva, permite-nos aferir a veracidade das hipóteses definidas, enquanto, se adoptarmos uma estratégia indutiva, e a ferramenta utilizada na tentativa de generalização das explicações encontradas.
- A regulação jurídica do turismo rural – Questões em abertoPublication . Aguiar, Nina; Castro, José Paulo RibeiroOs dados disponíveis mostram um crescimento acentuado da procura de turismo rural nos últimos anos, o que pode ser indicador de um potencial económico ainda não totalmente explorado. O aproveitamento ótimo deste potencial requer uma regulação, seja esta uma regulação pública, conforme a tradição dos sistemas jurídicos civilistas, ou uma regulação privada, como a que é prática usual nos sistemas jurídicos de common law. Em qualquer dos casos, a regulação é um fator crítico de um desenvolvimento sustentável do turismo rural. Em Portugal, o turismo rural tem feito um percurso paralelo ao dos restantes países europeus, o que se traduz num rápido crescimento. A legislação tem refletido, na sua evolução, esse crescimento, passando por várias fases num curto período de tempo. Só em 1986 nasce legalmente a figura do “turismo em espaço rural”, então estreitamente ligado ao turismo de habitação e com uma regulação incipiente. Em 1997, pelo contrário, o legislador adota uma abordagem globalista ao subsetor do turismo rural, impondo-se objetivos ambiciosos, em relação aos quais nãos e pode considerar ter havido uma significativa concretização. Talvez por esse motivo, em 2008, a lei atualmente em vigor adota uma postura mais modesta mas mais pragmática. Este trabalho questiona as várias abordagens legislativas ao turismo rural numa perspetiva evolutiva e comparada, tentando identificar as linhas estruturais de uma regulação deste setor.
