Azevedo, Pedro Tavares Silva Parreira de; Ferreira, Ângela P.; Bazzo, Thiago de Paula Machado; Rolle, José Luis CalvoThis work presents the development of a methodology for designing a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) with magnets mounted on the rotor surface, a machine with several practical applications. The focus of this dissertation was focused on small wind energy applications, a renewable energy source in exponential growth. The chosen topology presents a great competitive advantage over other electric machines, since it offers the possibility of assembly with a high number of poles, thus eliminating the need for a transmission box in this way reducing the number of mechanical parts in the assembly. Soughted to implement a project methodology where it was possible to obtain all project parameters in a direct and simplified way. The procedure used analytical equations to the develop a step-bystep design methodology that presented as output all physical dimensions of the machine and all electrical parameters such as voltage, current, power, load angle, armature resistance, synchronous inductance, losses etc. To obtain the complete model of the machine several models present in different literatures were gathered, and then adapted to fit in the chosen topology and in the same calculation flow. To verify the project, we used a commercial software that uses the finite element method with a high precision in simulations. The proposed method produced as a result a 7.5 kVA Synchronous Generator, 300 RPM and 20 poles. The rated voltage and frequency similar to those of the European electricity network. The values were verified and presented the expected accuracy.
