Agent-based inter-organizational workflow management system
Publication . Leitão, Paulo; Mendes, João M.
An Electronic Institution is a computational framework that provides a set of services supporting the lifecycle of Virtual Organizations. In a virtual organization, different business partners cooperate in order to achieve a common goal (the established contract), being the coordination of the corresponding inter-organizational workflow an important issue. This paper describes an inter-organizational workflow management architecture, based in multi-agent systems principles, aiming to orchestrate the contract execution and to obtain feedback from the shop floor level. Aiming to validate its correctness and applicability, a special focus is devoted to its implementation, using the JADE agent development framework, and its operation under different scenarios.
An approach to inter-organizational workflow management in an electronic institution
Publication . Cardoso, Henrique; Leitão, Paulo; Oliveira, Eugénio
In a virtual organization, different business partners (individual organizations) cooperate in order to achieve a common goal. The coordination of the corresponding inter-organizational workflow is an important issue. In this paper an approach towards managing the operational embodiment of a manufacturing consortium is presented. This approach is conceptualized as a service within an Electronic Institution framework providing several agent-based services related with the formation and operation of virtual organizations. The behavior of the inter-organizational workflow management service is presented, modeled as an extension to a contract monitoring service. The paper also deals with the information exchange needs between these services and with the partners involved in a virtual organization contractual relationship.
Agent-based inter-organizational workflow management system for electronic institutions
Publication . Leitão, Paulo; Mendes, João M.
An Electronic Institution is a computational framework that provides a set of services supporting the Virtual Organization lifecycle, namely its formation, operation and dissolution. A crucial service is related to the coordination of the corresponding inter-organizational workflow defined by the established contract. This paper introduces an agent-based interorganizational workflow management system, part of an Electronic Institution, aiming to coordinate the contract execution and to get feedback from the shop floor level. In the proposed approach, the close supervision of the inter-organizational workflow allows anticipating possible deviations and taking proper actions in order to minimize their potential damages.
