  • Co-creation as a creative strategy in the pre-production of an animation film in a Twitch community
Publication . Sobreira, Ana; Pinto, Ana Lúcia Jesus; Madureira, Marta
This paper exposes the development process, through co-creation strategies, of the pre-production of an animated film, featuring Twitch.tv, a video live streaming service, as the medium platform. Widespread accessibility to new technologies facilitates communication and sharing of ideas in different areas. The Twitch.tv platform allows the display of any artwork and promotes an easier communication between users in real time and through a set of options, for example, a chat box which enables the sharing of new ideas and experiences among members of a community. Exploring this potential, in order to stimulate greater creativity and find innovative results, we propose the development of an animated film through co-creation methods as a way to find innovative processes for an animation project. A twitch channel was created and some of its users self-proposed to cooperate in the author's animation project. This experience established connections with individuals from different areas, like different fields of arts. The method was based on the dialogue between the author and the users, who expressed themselves through the author's channel chat on Twitch. The ideas launched were subsequently voted on and selected by the majority of participants, which led to pre-production final results.
  • Character development through co-creation process in a twitch community
Publication . Sobreira, Ana; Pinto, Ana Lúcia Jesus; Madureira, Marta
Within the scope of Illustration and Animation, we intend to explore how practical and creative work can be developed from the influences of other individuals, considering their imagery and creative points of view. Widespread access to new technologies has made it possible to communicate and share our thoughts and ideas easily, where the platform Twitch has allowed us to work on what we propose. In this article we address the potential of Twitch as a mediating platform to develop ideas for characters, while exploring concepts related to co-creation. This co-creation work resulted in the exploration of those ideas launched by the followers in sketches and illustrated digital work. This research was part of a study to an animated short project developed during master’s degree of illustration and animation. We have realized the value of sharing the artistic process online, due to the real-time development of the ideas of different stakeholders; and this co-creation methods resulted in the exploration of the ideas launched by the followers, in sketches and illustrated digital work. Although the project varied due to the diversity of the participants, brainstorming remained constant, which made it possible to explore concepts such as creativity and integration.

Fanzines are artifacts with a D.I.Y (do it yourself ) nature created by an individual or a group of creators with unlimited freedom during the process of its making and for this reason, it is possible unveil the authors due to their formal expression and chosen thematic. Since fanzines permit unlimited liberty to the authors they serve as an instrument of self-discovery to explore how they want to express themselves, be it through comics, illustration, photography, clipping, writing, poetry, or a mix between media. This paper, connected with a master’s work project, aims to explore and understand the contribution of fanzines to the exploration of the author within the context of feminine sexuality and self-discovery.

  • entre tu e eu / between you and I: showcasing the potential of fanzines as an artifact of expression and authorship within the theme of feminine sexuality and self-discovery
Publication . Pisco, Catarina; Pinto, Ana Lúcia Jesus; Madureira, Marta
This paper explores and showcases the level of experimentation that fanzines provide to authors through the fanzine collection “entre tu e eu” (“between you and I”) and how fanzines can be transformed into the au- thor’s voice to convey messages in a way no other method can. With a D.I.Y (do it yourself ) approach, fanzines are objects that enable authors to explore them as they wish, without rules or constraints these artifacts provide a me- dium where limits, themes, graphics, and storytelling, can be tested at their full potential without the approval of a second party. As such, “entre tu e eu” is a collection of three fanzines, each working as a way for the author to confide in and to prove the flexibility that fanzines provide within the theme of feminine sexuality and self-discovery given that each fanzine offers a different sub-theme, format, graphism, and color palette. While being very different from each other, the collection conveys that each fanzine is part of the same collection, seizing the opportunity to experiment with the printing method of risograph as one of the key elements between them.
