- Energy cost and intra-cyclic variation of the velocity of the centre of mass in front crawl.Publication . Novais, Daniel; Carmo, Carla; Gonçalves, Pedro; Sousa, Filipa; Lima, António B.; Barbosa, Tiago M.; Santos, Paulo; Machado, Leandro; Keskinen, Kari L.; Fernandes, Ricardo J.; Vilas-Boas, João PauloThe purpose of the present study was to analyse the relationship between energy cost (C) and intra-cyclic speed fluctuations (dv) in breaststroke.
- Profile detection through source code static analysisPublication . Novais, Daniel; Pereira, Maria João; Henriques, Pedro RangelThe present article reflects the progress of an ongoing master’s dissertation on language engineering. The main goal of the work here described, is to infer a programmer’s profile through the analysis of his source code. After such analysis the programmer shall be placed on a scale that characterizes him on his language abilities. There are several potential applications for such profiling, namely, the evaluation of a programmer’s skills and proficiency on a given language or the continuous evaluation of a student’s progress on a programming course. Throughout the course of this project and as a proof of concept, a tool that allows the automatic profiling of a Java programmer is under development. This tool is also introduced in the paper and its preliminary outcomes are discussed.
- Program analysis for clustering programmers’ profilePublication . Novais, Daniel; Pereira, Maria João; Henriques, Pedro RangelEach programmer has his own way of programming but some criteria can be applied when analysing code: there are a set of best practices that can be checked, or ”not so common” instructions that are mainly used by experts that can be found. Considering that all programs that are going to be compared are correct, it’s possible to infer the experience level of the programmer or the proficiency level of the solution. The approach presented in this paper has as main goal to compare sets of solutions to the same problem and infer the programmers profile. This can be used to evaluate the programmer skills, the proficiency on a given language or evaluate programming students. A tool to automatically profiling Java programmers called PP (Programmer Profiler) is presented in this paper as a proof of concept. I
- Relationship between energy cost, swimming velocity, speed fluctuation in competitive swimming strokesPublication . Barbosa, Tiago M.; Lima, António B.; Portela, Ana; Novais, Daniel; Machado, Leandro; Colaço, Paulo; Gonçalves, Pedro; Fernandes, Ricardo J.; Keskinen, Kari L.; Vilas-Boas, João PauloThe purpose of this study was to analyse the relationships between the total energy expenditure ( tot), the energy cost (EC), the intra-cycle variation of the horizontal velocity of displacement of centre of mass (dv) and the mean swimming velocity (v) in the four competitive swimming strokes.
- Relationships between energy cost, swimming velocity and speed fluctuation in competitive swimming strokesPublication . Barbosa, Tiago M.; Lima, Francisco; Portela, Ana; Novais, Daniel; Machado, Leandro; Colaço, Paulo; Gonçalves, Pedro; Fernandes, Ricardo J.; Vilas-Boas, João PauloThe purpose of the study was to analyse relationships between total energy expenditure (Etot), energy cost (EC), intra-cycle variation of the horizontal velocity of displacement of centre of mass (dv) and mean swimming velocity (v). 17 Portuguese elite swimmers (4 at Freestyle, 5 at Backstroke, 4 at Breaststroke and 4 at Butterfly) were submitted to an incremental set of nx200-m swims. Bioenergetical and biomechanical parameters presented significant interrelationships. For pooled data, the relationship between Etot and v was r=0.59 (p<0.01), between EC and dv was r=0.38 (p<0.01) and the polynomial relationship, between dv and v was r=0.17 (p=0.28). Individual evaluation and identification of biomechanical critical points may help the swimmers to become more efficient at a certain swimming velocity.
