- Caracterização do uso de medicamentos pediátricos em crianças do ensino pré-primário e primárioPublication . No entanto, a criança não é um adulto em tamanho pequeno. Nos primeiros anos de vida, o organismo possui sistemas de reação e eliminação dos fármacos distintos do adulto, o que tem necessariamente implicações na utilização dos medicamentos para garantir a segurança e a efetividade 2. Objetivo: Identificar formas, motivos e fontes de influência na prática da automedicação na idade pediátrica pelos pais/responsáveis e fatores associados; determinar a perceção do conhecimento dos encarregados relativamente às prescrições médicas das suas crianças. Foi efetuado um estudo transversal, descritivo correlacional. Nele participaram 371 pais ou outros responsáveis, 81,9% do sexo feminino e 18,1% do sexo do masculino, com idades abrangidas entre os 22 e os 58 anos, sendo a média de idades de 37,84 anos. A recolha de dados foi realizada, através de um questionário de autopreenchimento anónimo e voluntário, nos estabelecimentos de ensino pré-escolar e do 1º ciclo do ensino básico da cidade de Bragança. Na análise estatística aplicaram-se medidas de tendência central e de dispersão, e o teste do qui-quadrado considerando o nível de significância de 5%.
- Characterization of pediatric medicines use in pre-scholar and primary school childrenPublication . The child is not an adult in small size, which necessarily has implications for the use of drugs to ensure safety and effectiveness. Objectives: To examine the use of pediatric medicines and associated factors in children of pre-school and 1st cycle of basic education in the city of Bragança, in Northeast of Portugal. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational study, was based on a questionnaire applied to 371 parents or guardians of children of pre-school and 1st cycle of basic education in the city of Bragança, in the academic year 2014/2015. Statistical analysis was performed on the SPSS program, v. 20.0. It was used descriptive statistics, correlations were accessed using Spearman and qui-square tests, considering the significance level of 5%. Results: The results revealed that 86% of parents use drugs without prescription, of these 49% resort to this practice under the influence of ancient medical guidelines and 28% under the influence of information transmitted in the pharmacy. Mostly of parents (53%) resort to self-medication to relieve fever or treatment of influenza symptoms (14%) of their children. No statistically significant factors related to the use of nonprescription medication in children were found. Conclusions: Pediatric self-medication is a common practice, especially made based on old medical guidelines. Objective This study aimed to study the consumption of fish in higher education students, and its socio demographic cofactors. Methods A sample of 238 Portuguese higher education students was used in a cross sectional study. A questionnaire regarding socio demographic and fish consumption habits was used. Statistical data analysis was performed suing Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 21.0. Kolmogorov-Smirnov with Lilliefors correction, Levene, Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis, were the tests used. Results Results revealed that females and students from up-country have a significantly higher consumption of fish. It was also evident that students consume significantly more fish when eating out. Conclusions These data were consistent with previous researches that concluded that women consume significantly more fish and other healthy food items, like fruits and vegetables. These results suggest that the contexts of a fishy diet in higher education students are not the same as for adults. Further studies regarding the determinants of a healthy diet as a whole are needed.
