Abstract(s)
As Tunas são grupos de estudantes, tipicamente do ensino superior, que unidos pelo gosto pela música
atuam executando músicas originais, de outras tunas ou adaptadas. Normalmente utilizam trajes próprios
consoante a tradição da sua cidade, tendo na sua organização regras e hierarquias próprias. A saúde mental
é a capacidade do indivíduo, do grupo e do ambiente de interagir uns com os outros de forma a promover
o bem-estar subjetivo, o desenvolvimento e utilização óptimos das capacidades mentais (cognitivas,
afectivas e relacionais), a realização de objectivos individuais e colectivos coerentes com a justiça e a
obtenção e preservação de condições de igualdade fundamental. Nas tunas cada individuo enquanto
elemento do grupo tem de interagir, exercitando as capacidades cognitivas, afetivas e relacionais, para
promover o bem-estar e realizar o objetivo coletivo de criar e executar música. Assim sendo, as tunas são
ambientes promotores de saúde mental. Existe evidência que a participação em atividades extracurriculares,
como por exemplo a participação numa tuna, está associada ao aumento de bem-estar. O decálogo da
saúde mental positiva apresenta 10 recomendações essenciais: Valorizar positivamente as coisas boas que
se tem na vida (a nível pessoal e profissional); Colocar “carinho” nas atividades da vida; Não ser muito duro
consigo mesmo e com outros (a tolerância, compreensão e flexibilidade são bons para a saúde mental);
Não deixar as emoções negativas bloquear a vida pessoal; Tomar consciência dos bons momentos que
acontecem, quando eles acontecem; Deixar fluir as emoções e interpretar a normalidade de muitos
sentimentos (não ter medo de chorar e de sentir); Procurar espaços e atividades para relaxar mentalmente;
Tentar resolver os problemas quando eles surgem; Cuidar das suas relações interpessoais, tanto as da esfera
pessoal e íntima como as de trabalho (colegas); Fazer uso frequente do sentido de humor na vida.
Muitas destas recomendações, senão quase todas, são utilizadas no dia-a-dia das tunas, podendo então
afirmar que o contexto das tunas pode ser terapêutico enquanto promotor de saúde mental positiva.

They usually wear their own costumes according to the tradition of their city, and their organisation has its own rules and hierarchies. Mental health is the capacity of the individual, the group and the environment to interact with each other in such a way as to promote subjective well-being, the optimal development and use of mental capacities (cognitive, affective and relational), the achievement of individual and collective objectives consistent with justice and the attainment and preservation of conditions of fundamental equality. In the tunas each individual as an element of the group has to interact, exercising cognitive, affective and relational capacities, in order to promote well-being and realise the collective objective of creating and performing music. Therefore, the music groups are environments that promote mental health. There is evidence that participation in extracurricular activities, such as participation in a tuna, is associated with increased wellbeing. The Decalogue for Positive Mental Health presents 10 key recommendations: To positively value the good things you have in life (on a personal and professional level); To put "caring" into life's activities; Not to be too hard on yourself and others (tolerance, understanding and flexibility are good for mental health); Not to let negative emotions block personal life; To become aware of the good moments that happen, when they happen; Letting emotions flow and interpreting the normality of many feelings (not being afraid to cry and to feel); Looking for spaces and activities to relax mentally; Trying to solve problems when they arise; Taking care of your interpersonal relationships, both those in the personal and intimate sphere and those at work (colleagues); Making frequent use of a sense of humor in life. Many, if not almost all, of these recommendations are used in the daily life of the Tunas and it can therefore be stated that the context of the Tunas can be therapeutic as a promoter of positive mental health.
