As modificações causadas pela extração do material lenhoso em corte final podem
exercer grande influência no armazenamento de carbono e nutrientes do solo. No presente
trabalho avalia-se o impacte de um corte final de regeneração no stock de carbono e nutrientes
do solo num povoamento de castanheiro bravo (Castanea sativa Mill.) explorado em alto-fuste. O
povoamento situado na serra da Padrela (41º 31’ 47” N, 7º 35’ 22” W), com uma área aproximada
de 3 ha, foi submetido a um corte raso com sementões no repouso vegetativo de 2002-2003, aos
65 anos de idade. Em 2002 (antes do corte) e em 2012 (após o corte) recolheram-se amostras de
solo em perfis nas profundidades 0-10 cm, 10-30 cm e 30-60 cm para a determinação dos
seguintes parâmetros: pH, C orgânico, N total, P e K extraíveis e bases de troca. Uma década
após o corte, os resultados obtidos permitiram observar uma subida dos valores do pH (H2O) nas
profundidades 0-10 cm e 10-30 cm, e uma diminuição significativa dos teores de P nos primeiros
10 cm de solo. Para o C e restantes parâmetros analisados não se observaram diferenças
significativas após aplicação do teste de Tukey (p > 0,05). Neste ecossistema, o esperado efeito
nefasto do corte no armazenamento de carbono não se faz sentir 10 anos depois. Os
decréscimos observados no stock de C do solo foram de 4 % nos primeiros 10 cm, 9 % na
profundidade 10-30 cm e 13 % na profundidade 30-60 cm.
The changes caused by harvesting of woody material on final cut can have great influence on soil carbon and nutrients storage. In the present study we evaluate the impact of a clearcut of regeneration on soil carbon and nutrients storage in a stand of chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) managed on high-forest system. The stand located in the Serra da Padrela (41 º 31 '47 "N, 7 ° 35' 22" W), with an area of about 3 ha was subjected to a clearcut with seed trees during the winter 2002-2003, at 65 years of age. In 2002 (before cutting) and 2012 (after cutting) samples were collected from soil profiles in the depths 0-10 cm, 10-30 cm, 30-60 cm for evaluating the following parameters: pH, organic C , total N, P and K extractable and cationexchange capacity. Ten years after cutting, the results allowed to observe an increase in values of pH (H2O) in the depths 0-10 cm and 10-30 cm, and a significant decrease in the levels of P in the first 10 cm of soil. C and remaining parameters analyzed do not differ significantly after applying the Tukey test (p> 0.05). In this ecosystem, the expected adverse effect of clearcutting on the carbon storage is not observed after 10 years.
