A dissertação «Influência Religiosa nos contos tradicionais são-tomenses» pretende analisar um corpus de contos tradicionais são-tomense, procurando lê-los a partir de um olhar centrado na dimensão religiosa vivenciada pelo povo são-tomense.
Numa primeira fase, foram estudados a origem do povo de São Tomé e Príncipe e o seu panorama religioso, dando-se particular destaque ao entrecruzamento entre o profano e o sagrado na religiosidade popular: nas formas de conceber e vivenciar/experienciar o divino e a relação entre o homem e o transcendente. Depois, procurou-se perceber como é que esse entrecruzamento entre sagrado e profano se patenteia nos contos são-tomenses. Ver-se-á, por fim, que a forma como o sentimento religioso nasce e se desenvolve no indivíduo não decorre tanto dos ensinamentos transmitidos num ambiente institucionalizado, mas sim do laço afectivo que, de forma indelével, liga as gerações mais velhas às mais novas – os laços afectivos entre progenitor e a sua prol.
De entre o universo da literatura tradicional de transmissão oral, seleccionámos como tipologia textual a analisar os contos. Assim, procuramos problematizar a questão da especificidade dos contos tradicionais são-tomenses.
Finalmente, a análise de um corpus de contos tradicionais do povo são-tomense permitiu-nos verificar que a dimensão religiosa, neles presente, é uma aspecto relevante e manifesta uma tendência para um sincretismo religioso que, apesar de uma tentativa sempre perene da vivência de uma fé autêntica, se evidencia na integração de crenças e práticas de origens diversas.
The dissertation "Religious Influence on traditional Santomean tales » intends to analyze a corpus of São Tomé folktales, trying to read them from a focused look at the religious dimension experienced by the people of São Tomé. Initially, we studied the origin of the people of São Tomé and Príncipe and its religious landscape, particularly the intersection between the profane and the sacred in popular religiosity: in the forms of conceiving and living / experiencing the divine and the relationship between man and the transcendent. Then, we tried to understand how these intersections between sacred and profane is patented in Santomean tales. We will see, at last, that the way the religious sentiment is born and develops in the individual does not follow much of the teachings transmitted in an institutionalized environment, but rather the emotional bond that indelibly connects the older generations to the newest - the emotional ties between parent and offspring. From the universe of the traditional literature of oral transmission, we selected the tales as textual typology to analyze. Thus, we try to look at the issue of the specificity of traditional Santomean tales. Finally, the analysis of a corpus of traditional São Tomé tales allowed us to verify that the religious dimension, present in them, is a relevant feature and expresses a tendency for a religious syncretism that, in spite of a continuous effort to live an authentic faith, reveals itself in the integration of beliefs and practices from diverse backgrounds.
