Abstract(s)
A importância deste estudo sobre “Educação Ambiental para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável em São Tomé e Príncipe” reside no facto de poder contribuir para a promoção do crescimento de uma consciência ambiental dos guias turísticos, a fim de poderem ter um papel mais ativo na construção de um turismo mais sustentável.
No sentido de obter respostas para a questão se os guias turísticos de São Tomé e Príncipe (STP) poderão, utilizando práticas ambientais alicerçadas numa formação adequada ao exercício da sua atividade profissional, contribuir para um turismo sustentável, foram definidos os seguintes objetivos: identificar que tipo de formação os guias turísticos de STP têm para o exercício da sua atividade profissional, conhecer as práticas utilizadas pelos mesmos e evidenciar a sua função, enquanto elos de ligação entre o turista e o produto turístico local, na promoção do crescimento da consciência ambiental e do desenvolvimento do turismo sustentável. A metodologia utilizada foi de natureza qualitativa, tendo como técnica de recolha de dados entrevistas semiestruturadas, aplicadas a três guias turísticos da Associação de Guias de Turismo de São Tomé e Príncipe e a três da Associação Monte Pico, selecionados de forma intencional. Uma análise de conteúdo permitiu clarificar a questão e os objetivos do estudo e uma ação de formação sobre conceitos em educação ambiental e turismo sustentável, permitiu modificar as conceções alternativas dos sujeitos face a um problema em estudo.
The importance of this study on "Environmental Education for Sustainable Tourism in Sao Tome and Principe" is that can contribute to promoting the growth of environmental awareness of tour guides, so that they can take a more active role in building a more sustainable tourism. In order to get answers to the question if the tour guides of Sao Tome and Principe (STP) may, using environmental practices grounded in appropriate training for performing their professional activity, contribute to sustainable tourism, the following objectives were defined: to identify which type of training the STP tour guides have for the exercise of their professional activity, know the practices used by them and highlight their function as links between the tourist and the local tourist product, in promoting environmental awareness and growth of sustainable tourism development. The methodology was qualitative in nature, with the data collection technique semi-structured interviews, applied to three tour guides of the Tourist Guides Association of Sao Tome and Principe and three of the Association Monte Pico, selected intentionally. A content analysis clarified the issue and the study objectives and action training on concepts in environmental education and sustainable tourism contributes to modify the alternative conceptions of the subjects faced with a problem under study.
