Abstract(s)
The main goal of the this paper is to analyze, through qualitative research, “the women representation in Sao Tome traditional popular tales”. The studied corpus will consist of stories narrated by pre-school students which, after being collected by their teachers, were published in book in recent decades. Thereby, the set of stories we are gointg to analyze have been chosen from following literary works: ( São Tomé and Príncipe Traditional Tales, 1984) (Children's Tales , 1984) ( Macara & LISBON, 2009) and three told stories which are still unpublished. The used methodology will be the analysis of the selected texts (corpus ), to understand how the character " woman " is treated in her different conditions presented in these traditional folktales , while daughter / teenager / mother / wife / stepmother. There will be a reflection on the gender issue according to man’s role in assigning tasks to women as well as their subordinate functions such as maid, laundress, nurse, among others. Previously, we will clarify the analysis model of appropriate narrative to each story and try to read the roles assigned to the central female character of each story, in which they reveal particularly in Sao Tome and Principe culture. From the pedagogical point of view, we hope to highlight the formative / educational value of these narratives, in the children’s empowerment and development, helping them to perceirve the symbolic dimension of traditional oral literature and go transposing the fantasy world to the real world the lessons that the tales teach us. Moreover, traditional tales may lead to development of children and not only in relation to construction and enrichment of the mother tongue, but also it can contribute to an appreciation of cultural exchanges for the sense of cooperation, mutual help, as the child hears it she or he identifies himself/herself as several characters which interact in different contexts which also have different personalities and behaviors. From the critical point of view, is important to stress a behavior changing deriving from a new wave of São Tomé and Principe writers post independence who have a more democratic vision and have written their literary woks in the gender equity and equality perspective. We may highlight the works «Aurélia de Vento» (BRAGANÇA, 2011) and «Flóli Canido: Crónicas Desalinhavadas» (JÚNIOR, 2004).
