Abstract(s)
In December 2013 the Mexican Congress passed a series of constitutional amendments that for the first time in over 50 years allowed private capital in the Mexican oil industry. Such modification represented a direct confrontation with the Mexican social imaginary, where oil is closely linked to nationalism since the oil expropriation law of 1938. This paper shows the way in which such social imaginary was used by the three main political parties of the country, PAN, PRI and PRD, to favor its own energy reform proposals
