Abstract(s)

Nowadays, companies are very dynamic, thus increasing their competitiveness is mandatory. This competitiveness is associated with dynamics and flexibility, a fast product changeover is needed. Interoperability has an important role to implement these features that companies need, in order to reduce time, effort and money. This paper describes how the production process can be improved with semantic models. With technical and methodological review through re-configuration low-level devices with Service Oriented Architecture and explores how Semantic Web Services can assist on this domain. The paper reviews the literature and points out the current research focusing Semantic Web Services and Ontologies applied to the manufacturing domain, and how interoperability in this field has proven to be essential
