Resumo(s)
During the last years we have experienced an increasing convergence between voice networks and data networks, with special "intromission" of InterNet technologies into voice transmission. These technologies had originated the terms Voice over IP (VoIP) and, with a more significant meaning, IP Telephony. In this context, this work intends to present the VoIP@IPB project, developed at the Communications Center of the Polytechnical Institute of Bragança (IPB) with the objective of testing this type of services and evaluating its potential interest for the Institution. Thus it is presented a brief summary of the main protocols and technologies that support IP Telephony, followed by a brief description of the main characteristics of the Voice and Data networks of IPB. Finally, the goals, architecture, current state and future steps of the VoIP@IPB project are presented.
