Abstract(s)

The aim of this paper is to provide data on the history of Portuguese Lexicon of veterinary medicine, focusing on the Lexicon of the 13th century. We analyze the Livro de alveitaria by Mestre Giraldo (1318), the oldest known Portuguese veterinary treatise. Our aim is to check if the nouns for diseases appearing in that book had been used throughout other veterinary treatises of succeeding centuries, or if they had been substituted by other nouns. This work implies different dialogues: i) a diachronic dialogue between the medieval treatise and other posterior veterinary treatises; ii) a dialogue between linguistic and veterinary sciences.
