Resumo(s)

Catalytic wet peroxide oxidation (CWPO) is an advanced oxidation process, operated using simple equipment and mild operating conditians, in which highly oxidizing hydraxyl radicaIs (HO') are generated fram the catalytic decompasition af hydrogen peroxide (H,O,) [L 2). Sinee the report of Lüeking el ai. in 1998 [3], the develapment af suitab-Ie -carbonaceous materials (without any added metal phase) for CWPO has been intensively explored [4). lhe influenee of struetUfal and surraee chemical features on their adsorption and catalytic performance was also a subject of study and discussion. In lhe present work, gathering the Imowledge acquired in the last few years in several publications of our research graup, some crucial praperties that should be combined when developing carbonaceous materiais for CWPO applications are identified (cf Figure la) and thoroughly explored. For instanee, graphene-based materiaIs were recently reported as active and stable catalysts for the CWPO of high1y eoneentrated 4-nitrophenol solutions (5 g L" ), the main aetive sites being at electran rich regions generated Eram the confinement af delocalized rr-electrans caused by structural defects [5]. The mechanism over these active sites involves the reductive decomposition oEH201 to generate HO', as shown in Figure lb.
